With 40 dollars in Chiang Rai, you’re not going to feel poor, I’m telling you now.
First, you rent a scooter for about 7 dollars with gas included. That’s it, you’ve got freedom. You throw yourself into the adventure, even if it’s your first time driving on the left. Say a little prayer if needed, but hit the gas.

🚨 Stop one: the White Temple. It looks like something out of a weird dream. You devour it with your eyes. It charges you 5 dollars and it’s worth every damn cent. It’s big, full of details, and you’re going to freak out.

🛕 Stop two: you head straight to Wat Huay Pla Kang — that giant white Buddha looking at you from the mountain — and guess how much it costs? Nothing. Zero. Free. And on top of that, the views will knock you flat.

🔵 Stop three: the Blue Temple. Everything is blue. You go in and it feels like you’re inside an Instagram filter, but real. Also free.

🌧️ It rains, so you head back to the hostel to rest. And when your stomach growls, you end the day with a rolling hot pot (yeah, like sushi on a conveyor belt but Thai soup version) for 13 dollars. You stuff yourself and roll out of there.

And you still have a few dollars left in case you want a Thai massage or a weird coconut ice cream.
