I’m going to save you time and travel blog nonsense. If you’re stepping into Bangkok for the first time, do these six things. They’re not “things to do in the city.” They’re experiences that shake you, that slap you with life. The good kind.

1. Go up to a rooftop bar
Yeah, it sounds typical. But it’s not. You go up to a rooftop, order a drink, and forget the world. The views are straight out of a movie, the weather is on your side, and the prices have nothing to do with the rip-offs of other cities. You feel like someone important. Even if you’re not.

2. Chinatown: noise, flavor, and street
Chinatown in Bangkok isn’t a place, it’s an experience. You go in and it feels like you’ve been dropped on another planet. Alleyways, smoke, food stalls — a chaos that grabs you. Eat on the street. Don’t ask what it is. Just eat it. And if you find a bar with no sign, go in. It’s worth it.

3. Sunset from Wat Arun
There’s a bar called The Eagle’s Nest, right next to the Wat Arun temple. It gets crowded, yes. But when you see the sun go down and the temple lights come on, nothing else matters. You don’t even need a photo. You’ll keep it in your head.

4. Hop on a moto-taxi
At least once. It’s not comfortable. It’s not safe. But you get on, and you take in Bangkok with your eyes. And your nose. And everything. It’s like a mix of adrenaline, smoke, life, and madness. You get off and say: “Damn, this is it.”

5. The lizards in Lumpini Park
They’re huge. You run into them while walking through the park and it feels like you’re in Jurassic Park. They’re not in cages. They do their own thing. And you’re there, like a tourist totally amazed. Well yeah. And rightfully so.

6. Eat a mookata
Not a barbecue, not a fondue. A mix. You cook everything yourself at the table, and eat it hot, freshly made. It’s cheap, tasty, and most of all, fun. Because eating should be that too: a pleasure, not just a task.
