Different things to do in Thailand (and walk out with a hat that blows minds)
Forget the elephant, the random temple, and the “floating market.” If you want to do something truly original in Thailand, go to this workshop where you make marbled art. Yep, you read that right: marbled art. And you make your own hat. One of those bucket hats that are trendy right now. But yours will be one of a kind. Because you make it. With your own hands.
The owner of the place explains everything step by step — you can’t go wrong. First, you choose your colors. I went with a sunset vibe: oranges, pinks… very chill. Then you drop little blobs into a tub of water. Yes, water. It feels like magic.
With a comb (yep, a comb), you swirl the colors around and create your own design. You can do patterns, flowers, stripes, whatever you want. They teach you, so don’t worry if you have zero clue. I got a little too confident and started making giant flowers. I thought: “I’ve messed it up.” But nope. You’ve got to trust the process.
Once your masterpiece is floating in the water, you put on some gloves and… bam! You dip the hat and the design sticks to it. Literally. Then, while it was still wet, I threw on a bit of pink glitter. Just because. Because you can never have too much sparkle.
Meanwhile, Jack — who’s quicker than me — made his using a straw. He blew on the water to move the colors. Super pro, very artsy. His turned out amazing, not gonna lie.
We waited about an hour for them to dry and walked out of there with two hats that look like they came straight from a gallery. Price: 16 euros. Forget the typical souvenir.
