Visit Chiang Rai, Thailand

Hudson and Emily shared one of their most unusual experiences in Chiang Rai. They never imagined they would find Pikachu and Minions inside a temple! Of all the countries they have visited, the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) in Chiang Rai became one of the most unique. This place is impressive not only for its architecture but also for the fusion of the traditional with pop culture that they had never seen in a temple: Pokémon, Transformers, and even characters from The Lord of the Rings!

This temple never stops surprising, with references to pop culture coexisting with Buddhist symbolism, creating a completely different visual experience from any other sacred place they have visited.

After that peculiar visit, they headed to the Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten) and the Black House (Baan Dam), which were also interesting for their unique style and the way they combine art and culture.

At the end of the day, they had the opportunity to meet some women from the Karen Longneck tribe. They were very kind, although they also felt that the place had more of a tourist attraction vibe than a real cultural connection, as they couldn’t sit down and have a deep conversation with them about their traditions.

Despite everything, Chiang Rai surprised them, and the next day they headed towards the world’s most visited city.
